Al. Schumann: Experiences of Inter-religious Dialogue as a German Hindu Woman (A. Schumann)

Abstract:

This article takes up several topics: First of all, the inner development of a woman who grew up in a German-Christian context and who joins a completely 'foreign' religion, Hinduism, is described from her own point of view. How it came to this religious confession and the associated self-experiences and realizations summarizes them as an inner-religious dialogue. As an intra-religious dialogue, she describes her experiences exchanging with religious sisters and brothers within Hindu communities, with special emphasis on gender-specific role distribution. The third category, the inter-religious dialogue, deals with their encounters with (mostly Christian) people of other faiths in German society, predominantly in the context of interreligious events, seminars and organizations. In her conclusions and consequences drawn from her personal experience in interfaith dialogue, she does not particularly emphasize the philosophical-religious ideal of one religion, as set forth in its respective 'sacred' scriptures and principles to compare the socialization and traditional reality of another religion.
